Fireworks in Beynac: Summer Celebrations Along the Dordogne River
Fireworks over the Dordogne, a village dance under the stars, a farmers’ market on Monday mornings, evening concerts at the campground… Summer in Beynac-et-Cazenac is a series of experiences to enjoy with family or friends, in the heart of the Périgord Noir. Le Capeyrou campground, located at the foot of the medieval castle, puts you just a few kilometers from the region’s major events—including the July 14 fireworks display in Sarlat-la-Canéda and the August 15 fireworks in Beynac, visible from the riverbank. We’ll help you plan your summer festivities.

July 14 in Sarlat: the region’s big fireworks display
Bastille Day, July 14, is celebrated in Sarlat-la-Canéda —about 20 kilometers from Beynac. The medieval town, whose narrow streets and ochre-colored stone facades are designated historic landmarks, provides a striking backdrop for this popular event. The fireworks display there is one of the most spectacular in the region: the lights burst above the slate-roofed houses, in a setting that few towns can match.
A community dance usually accompanies the festivities, in the warm, family-friendly atmosphere typical of July evenings in the Dordogne. Be sure to arrive early to get a good spot—and plan for a leisurely drive back; the road between Sarlat and Beynac runs along the river and is best enjoyed at a relaxed pace.

August 15 in Beynac: fireworks and a lively atmosphere along the Dordogne River
On August 15, Beynac takes the reins. The festivities take place in Beynac— right across from the campground —and to say the location is prime would be an understatement. The fireworks display is reflected in the waters of the Dordogne, at the foot of the castle silhouetted against the darkness: an image that stays with you for a long time. The festivities are in full swing, the crowd has turned out in force, and the atmosphere that evening is particularly festive.
Good to know: August 15 in Beynac is a lively and noisy evening. If you’re sensitive to noise or traveling with young children, please take this into account when planning your trip. And if you’d like to enjoy the fireworks from the campground, our sites along the Dordogne River offer a direct view of the festivities.

Concert nights at the campground: the party continues at Capeyrou
Summer at Capeyrou also features occasional evening concerts in July and August—a laid-back lineup that captures the open-air café vibe of our bar, built from wood and Périgord stone. Our food truck is on site six days a week during peak season; the terrace comes alive in the evening and sets the tone for a laid-back night among fellow campers who, as the days go by, become true vacation companions.
A celebration doesn't always have to be a big festival to be meaningful. Sometimes it's simply a shared drink at dusk, looking out over the river.
